Tonight hubby and I said good-bye to our dear friend from Ohio, her daughter and the 3 darling grandsons, they are off to Virginia to visit more family there before heading home to Ohio. We were able to spend some good time with them while they were here this past week. Linda's Mom lives in Hemet and she also has her brother Robert from the valley (San Fernando) too. We attended church together, laughed, even shed those tears while saying good-bye to her mom who is 90.
This brings me to the theme of this post "Sunday, Day of Rest". The final days of the original 12 disciples was past, Paul was called on the road to Damascus and now he is with young Timothy, who is quickly learning to take those words that Paul gives him from the Lord to serve his congregation. After Paul is in the presence of his Lord, Timothy will have God to be his Rock, this is all we need to know. In his own time as a youth to mature servant of the Lord, Timothy will often go back in time to those days with Paul, remembering Paul's earnestness and the presentations of his teaching the truth to Timothy.
So where is the day of rest that Timothy might have looked forward to, longed for, his days sometimes weary, overwhelmed with the body of Christ under his charge, knowing he must spend time in prayer with his Lord for the will of the Lord to come through the Spirit to the people. Oh, but the rejoicing he must have had,for those Sundays and everyday of the week were new, special, fresh, people filled the church, hungry for God, praying for peace, for healing, for daily bread.
Our Sunday, Day of Rest can be incorporated into each day as we arise, and we rest in our Lord, creator of the day ahead of us, not our will, but his, those persecutions, struggles with our flesh, thank Him for his love endures, is never far away, but as near as the negativity we bring onto ourselves, our comfort zone is so much more than being uncomfortable, stepping out of the box to rest in him. We pray for the challenge and we rise to it, we pray, really get into the word, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Some of us in our family devotion time, around the noon lunchtime table, while we put on the full armour of God around our children each day, as we turn off the TV, or put down the book and give thanks, we rest in Him.
Giving thanks for all of you in my life and to those that come to this post for the first time, Genesis, "and on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." Gen. 2:1
Thank you for this was from my heart.
Love Nana C
